Bathroom vanities have smaller footprints than kitchens, integrated or undermount sinks, and a lot more contact with cosmetics, cleaners and standing water. We cut them to the fixture and, if you like, carry the same stone up the wall and around the tub.

Quartz, marble or granite?

The right stone for the right bathroom

The question we get most, “quartz or marble for a vanity top?”, has a different answer for a kids’ bathroom than for an ensuite. Here is how we answer it in the showroom.

Quartz for the family bathroom →

Toothpaste, cosmetics, hair dye and nail-polish remover do nothing to it. Non-porous, never sealed, and the marble looks are what most Calgary vanities get.

Marble for the ensuite →

Little heat, few acids, mostly admiration: a powder room or ensuite is where real Carrara or Calacatta belongs. Sealed yearly, wiped promptly, loved for decades.

Granite for the double vanity →

The durable middle ground and the best value on a large top. Dense dark granites in a bathroom need sealing only every few years.

Jet listened carefully to our requirements and made sure we got what we were expecting, offering suggestions and options. His price was very competitive. Removal of the old granite proved to be a nightmare (due to the way they were originally installed) but Jet’s crew quietly persisted and got the old stuff out without damaging our cabinets – we had real fears about what would be left of them. As with many contractors, there were some scheduling issues that we had to work around but Jet did his best to work with us when bumps occurred. Which sinks work with a stone vanity top?
