Make your fireplace the centrepiece of the room!

A fireplace surround is a small job with an outsized effect: a few square feet of stone that the whole living room is arranged around. We template the firebox and the wall, cut the surround, hearth and mantel pieces in our shop, and install them in half a day!

Gas insert, electric unit or wood-burning: tell us which, and we’ll tell you which stone can go where. Granite and marble take direct heat; quartz goes on the surround and feature wall with the manufacturer’s clearance from the opening.

Most of our fireplaces are done with a kitchen. The island and the hearth from one slab is the request we get most. If we did your kitchen, we may still have the offcut.

Which stone takes the heat, matching the kitchen, cost and timing.

Which stone is best for a fireplace surround?

Granite and marble take direct heat and are the classic choice for the hearth and the face around the firebox. Quartz works beautifully on the surround and the mantel wall with the clearance the fireplace manufacturer specifies from the opening, because its resin doesn’t like direct flame. We’ll tell you which parts can be which stone.

Can the fireplace match my kitchen countertop?

Yes, and it’s the most common request: an island and a fireplace in the same slab, or a marble surround that picks up the veining in a quartz countertop. If we did your kitchen, we may still have the offcut.

How much does a stone fireplace surround cost in Calgary?

A simple surround and hearth is a small job, a few square feet, so the price is driven by the stone and the number of polished edges more than the area. Most come in well under a kitchen. Send a photo of the fireplace with its dimensions and we’ll quote it from there.

How long does a fireplace surround take?

Template, then one to two weeks for fabrication, then a half-day install. Gas inserts and electric units should be in place before we template so the opening is exact.
